Only a quarter of sessions of local councils are broadcast live
According to the Presidential Decree,
sessions of the Jokargy Kenes of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regional, district and municipal councils of people's representatives (Kengashes) should be
broadcasted live on TV channels and the Internet.
Anti-Corruption Agency analyzed the state of live broadcasts of
local councils’ meetings in 2022 on TV channels and in the Internet:
Only 61 sessions, or 25% out of a total
245 sessions of the Jokargy Kenes, regional and Tashkent councils,
were broadcast live.
Only 750 meetings, or 24%, out of a total
3,154 meetings held by the municipal and district councils of people's representatives,
were broadcast live.
Last year,
not a single meeting of councils of people's representatives in
Khorezm, Jizzakh, Namangan, Fergana regions, as well as the Tashkent Council was broadcast online.
