I remember the day this was posted. I was on my way to Chechnya. Last minute my family decided that since we were considered musafireen, we wouldn’t fast this day as it would be hard when driving for several hours. It was late and I couldn’t sleep, fajr was approaching in 30 minutes and I figured I’d stay awake until prayer time. We were in our room in the boat, and my family were asleep. I was watching a lecture on my PC, and naturally I would get notifications from telegram channels popping up in the corner of the screen. I didn’t pay attention to them, but when I got this notification, I could only see the words “Tomorrow is the day of ‘Arafah” and I thought to myself that I should read what it says – to check if there’s other things I can do this day if I’m not fasting. I clicked on it and read this post,
“Think about the sins you did”
“How much would you regret these sins when being held accountable for them?”
These words hit so hard and I feared losing such an opportunity. It was only 10 minutes left of Suhoor, and at this moment I decided that I will fast the day of ‘Arafah. I knew that my mother and brother would be saddened that I chose to fast and didn’t tell them/encourage them to do the same. I woke them up and told them about it and they decided to fast aswell. We all drank water and had some fruit before time ran out and Alhamdulillah ta’ala finished the day of fasting with ease, by the Rahma of Allah.
SubhanAllah what a great effect reminders have. This is an example of how beneficial social media can be when used correctly and with the right intention. A simple post like this made my family change our minds and fast this important day and I am forever grateful that I didn’t miss it. The person who posted it would never know about this occurrence if I didn’t share it, and without their knowledge they contributed to some strangers’ good deeds. Imagine on the day when all you have is your good deeds to save you, you suddenly receive deeds you never knew about. Indeed, Allah is The Giver of Justice.
وَذَكِّرۡ فَإِنَّ ٱلذِّكۡرَىٰ تَنفَعُ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ
And remind for verily, the reminding profits the believers.
