Intelligence is the most important quality for a leader.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?

There is a nearly endless amount of literature on leaders of the past and the present, and for thousands of years, people have disagreed on what skill most certainly turns one into a leader. There is a popular view that intelligence is that very feature, but I believe it is not always the case as there are other qualities that can be more vital.

Intelligence is, in fact, an important quality for people in many fields. Leading scientists, for example, can easily credit intelligence for their success, as it feeds their curiosity and facilitates their working process. Politicians are also the people whose job is synonymous with intelligence, both in terms of having a proper level of IQ and emotional intelligence, as they have to make important decisions under scrutiny. Political leaders, as a rule, are impressively erudite individuals with academic backgrounds, making intelligence the main strength in their biographies.

There are numerous examples of occupations and people that highlight the importance of other qualities, however. Athletes and historical military figures can be used in this discussion. Although intelligence is a benefit for these people too, in the world of sport, for instance, one’s physique and work ethic contribute more to success than intelligence does. Take Jon Jones as an example. He is often referred to as the greatest mixed martial artist of all time but is often criticized for his decisions in daily life. He definitely has the fight IQ, but his physical preparation and DNA played a key role in his career. As for leaders in a war, many people in history will be remembered not for their intelligence but rather for their violent nature and ability to motivate people, which attracted followers at the time.

In conclusion, intelligence is an essential component for many people but cannot be universally referred to as a guarantee for success in leadership.
