Mistakes That Guarantee Rejection (coming from NYUAD admission officers)

Copy and Paste Disaster
You may have written several essays about why you want to attend a particular school / study a specific major. But do not accidentally tell Santa Clara University that you are excited by the opportunities available at Boston University.

Not Submitting All Parts Of The Application.
If you are applying through the Universal/College Application or Common Application and do not submit the supplement, your application is incomplete. And if you miss the deadline, you may never have the chance to send it in. And don’t forget to send official test scores, transcripts from all schools you have attended, and recommendation letters as required by individual schools.

Fraudulent Docs
You might want to make a good impression by self-reporting that you got a +1500 SAT/ 4.0 GPA, but remember that you have to send original docs before attending the university. If you get caught, you might get expelled.

3. Poor or No Recommendation Letters

Some state that most universities simply ignore your letters of recommendation and accept you according to your GPA, test scores and many other components of your application. Though it is true that not every college reads your recommendation letters because of high applicant pools, and also because they are humans just like us, having a well- developed letter definitely gives you a perfect shot to get in. For the record, " Recommendation letters are considered the second most important aspect of your application after your GPA," says Yale's dean in one of his interviews.

P.S: Even if letters of recommendation are optional, do submit them as part of your application. Remember, optional recommendation letters should better come from someone with prestige!

4. Messing up with application and deadlines.

US universities are very strict with deadlines, meaning that if you happen to miss set deadlines, you might end up with a big trouble. ( source: Minnesota State University admissions committee in person talk) On top of that, messing up in your application: be it providing a set of different emails, names, or creating different accounts, tend to bring you close to rejection( if noticed)

5. No interests

Admissions Committee wants you to be a well- rounded student, not just a robot who studies 24/7

These are all for this post!

2023-01-03 20:03:35 Let's talk about how to FAIL to get into universities in the US.

1.Below - 2.0 GPA

GPA - Grade Point Average - is considered very important for admissions committee when deciding which applicant to accept. While you can still find extremely limited number of universities, if not none which accept GPA below 2.0, there is a slim chance of you getting the maximum scholarship package available to you.

2. Poor Personal Statement

The second most important aspect of your application would probably be your personal statement where you are able to narrate your own thoughts and deliver your important message to a reader. Most of the times, applicants usually exaggerate their strengths, believing that they would be a TICKET to their university acceptance. This is obviously an oversimplified concept rooted deep down in our mind. Although there is no a single way to write a stellar essay, meaning that everyone has their unique stories to tell, failing to reflect on occasions, experiences and feelings as accurately as possible might end up with you eating rejection letters. Remember, you should aim for emotional aspect of your essay; in other words, don't throw away words for the sake of word limit, do spice your essay up with emotions, background identities and how to back them up with your values.
