Overall, it is clear that, in each of the countries, the popularity of making waste landfilled is the most enormous, except in Netherland where it is the fourth. Furthermore, the degree of differences between the four categories is almost identical in Netherlands and the UK.

Considering firstly Italy and Spain, these countries are more inclined to throw the waste away rather than retain it. To begin with the former, the percentages of waste that is burnt, used as chemical, and recycled practically similarly make up two fifth of the share, whereas that of landfilled one is relatively higher, at 40%. Regarding the latter, the most and the second most common approach of dealing with waste are burying the waste in a landfill and burning it, with 40% and 30% respectively; conversely, recycling and using waste as chemicals are not as popular as other methods in Spain, with around 11% and 18% of waste in turn.

As for Netherlands and the UK, focusing more on maintaining waste to reuse is these nations’ preference. Even though the proportion of waste recycled reports nearly 70%, about 50% more than that of one used as chemicals, the figure for the remaining ways accounts for approximately 10%. In Netherland, however, the vast majority of waste tends to be landfilled, taking up 65%.
