2021-01-27 20:19:49 Some people say that mobile phones should be banned in public places such as libraries, shops and public transport. Do you agree or disagree?

In today's world, there is a controversy about phones and their ban in public places, such as libraries, different means of transport and shops. I agree with the fact that technologies should be prohibited in these places since it might cause inconvenience for other people.

First of all, if visitors to public zones use their mobiles to communicate they are likely to make a lot of noise. This is because usually telephone conversations are emotional and you need to speak loudly to make your companion hear what you are saying. As a result, it works as a distraction for other visitors and it might affect their happiness. For example, in Ukrainian libraries, citizens can get a fine if they use their telephones.

Moreover, when residents talk on their phones they become more inattentive and can cause some incidents. Therefore, people can not pay attention to what is happening around and in the case of public transport,it might have negative consequences. This is due to the fact that passengers can accidentally push someone and injure them. Hence, it is quite dangerous for surrounders when people use their telephones since some unexpected troubles might happen. For instance, in the UK one man was talking on his mobile and due to his carelessness,he fell on the rails but luckily he was saved.

To conclude, I am firmly convinced that phones should be banned in public places. This is because, firstly, it is likely to lead to a lot of inconvenience for surrounders and, secondly, there is a chance of harmful consequences.

2021-01-27 20:18:22 When a country develops its technology, the traditional skills and ways of life die out. It is pointless to try and keep them alive. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

In this era, technology has become most advanced than any other aspects, by this development the value of traditional skills and way of life has come to an end. Most of the people think it is pointless to keep the manual traditional work ethics alive, I completely disagree with this point. In this essay, we will discuss why human effort is more important than Artificial Intelligence.

In particular, the machine is created by humans to benefit society, this has obviously improved the lifestyle of men to an extreme extent. Artificial intelligence now has the capability of doing everything that a living being can do. However, this has led to the conclusion that human intervention in a job is of zero value. We need to overcome this factor to save humanity in the world.

Firstly, robots have taken away the employment opportunity of millions of crowd, which has led to poverty. Secondly, society has become dependent on robots, leading to factors like less interaction with the people, laziness, lack of physical activity. Finally, without knowing or unknowingly people are getting weaker day by day. For instance, even the army forces are using an artificial human being as their soldiers, which can go, rogue, one day.

In conclusion, there is a thin line between the pros and cons of our technological invention, we should keep this in mind and then do the proceedings, if we still accept the fact that technology has the upper hand, then in future living beings will become extinct. Humans are the ultimate power of the world. Therefore we should always keep our existence on priority.

2021-01-26 13:16:19 IELTS Writing Task 2: ignore the word 'academic'

Many people are confused by the idea that they are doing the IELTS academic writing test. They think this means that they need to use "academic" words, or that IELTS writing is similar to university academic writing.

All of this is wrong. Here's why:

Examiners are not looking for "academic" words. There is nothing in the scoring criteria that tells examiners to do this. Instead, examiners are told to look for a wide range of vocabulary, collocations, and some less common vocabulary.

IELTS writing (especially task 2) is more like a high school writing task, rather than a university assignment. In a university assignment, for example, you will never see the question "do you agree or disagree?". At university you are expected to use research as the basis of your writing, but in the IELTS test you only have your own ideas and opinions. You are even told that you can use examples from your own personal experience in IELTS writing task 2. This isn't very "academic"!

So, it's best to ignore the word "academic". Ignore any advice that relates to university academic writing; IELTS writing has its own 'rules' and requirements.

2021-01-24 15:55:39 Some people think that students in single-sex schools perform better academically. Others, however; believe that mixed schools provide children with better social skills for adult life. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

In the present age, whether single-sex schools provide more benefits than mixed schools has sparked much debate. Some people assert that students in single-sex schools have better academic achievements, whereas many others argue that mixed schools offer students better social skills for their future. Personally, I am in favour of the latter view.
Convincing arguments can be made that mixed schools provide a more comprehensive learning environment for children. To start with, students studying at mixed schools have more chances to communicate with members of the opposite sex. In other words, children learn how to talk to the other gender at an early age; therefore, their social skills would certainly be fostered. Moreover, mixed schools give students opportunities to deal with conflicts with the other gender, which strengthens students' problem-solving skills. For instance, when a boy has a conflict with a girl at school, both of them must learn how to cope. This lesson must be learned sooner or later; as a result, students benefit more if they can learn it sooner. Lastly, mixed schools provide students with a real-life scenario where both genders co-exist. Specifically, students are able to learn in an organic environment in which boys and girls must know how to interact with each other.
Admittedly, single-sex schools have fewer distractions. The reason for this is if a school only has boys or girls, students would not be distracted by members of the opposite sex at school; hence, they can focus on their learning. Even so, these students still have access to the other gender after school, which means in reality, they must meet the other gender anyway. Consequently, the benefits of single-sex schools are quite limited.
In summary, I would concede that single-sex schools have some advantages. Despite that, mixed schools certainly support students in a much better way. Overall, I am convinced that students should go to mixed schools.

2021-01-23 15:44:06 Writing task 2 in Uzbekistan — 23.01.2021

Many people are afraid to leave their home because of their fear of crime. Some people believe that more action should be taken to prevent crime, but others feel that little can be done.

Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

The high crime rate has led to a phenomenon that plenty of people are afraid of leaving home, which impair the social security and stability. There are conflicting views regarding whether crime could be prevented or not. Personally, I believe that the measures could be done to reduce the high crime rate efficiently.

On the one hand, some people believe that there are solutions that will ensure people feel safer outside their homes. Firstly, offenders should be given the punishment according to the severity. For those who commit felony like murder, they should receive strict punishment such as life imprisonment or death penalty. Strict punishment could be a deterrent to potential lawbreakers, they might be afraid of the consequence of being caught. As a result, some of them might give up their illegal plans. Moreover, some people recommit after being released because they cannot find a decent job and make a living, this is also a reason contribute to the high crime rate. If education or vocational training can be provided in prison, prisoners are more likely to secure employment when they go back to society, this measure could lead them to the correct path. Lastly, the education system should play an important role in preventing crimes. Schools can provide moral lessons to help students develop a sound moral system. Since there is much misbehaviour promoted in public, if they are exposed to improper information, their moral awareness could prevent them from being misled. This could reduce juvenile delinquency and the possibilities of becoming criminals when they grow up.

On the other hand, others argue that nothing can be done hold this view for several reasons. To begin with, a fear of crime is a state of mind perpetuated by the media. For example, we are constantly bombarded with negative news stories about offence and violence on our streets. Thus, the belief is that whatever we do to reduce levels of crime, people will still be scared. Another belief is that this wrongdoing is caused by wider structural issues in society that are too difficult to tackle, such as the growing income gap between the rich and the poor. Little then can be done about this issue in the capitalist societies.

In conclusion, from my perspective, although tacking crimes is challenging, the prevention can be achieved through the measures mentioned above. Therefore, both the government and the education system should take responsibility to build a secure society.

When I was learning new words, I used to find myself using some words with ease. At that moment in time, I did not know what the reason was. It was not until I came across a you tube video teaching how to learn new words that I came to realize why some words were easy for me to use. The answer was simple though. The words I articulated while learning were the ones that I could use when speaking and writing. That is to say, you should say the words you are learning out loud so that your brain and mouth get accustomed to them. With this simple trick, you will be able to make those words active vocabulary.

3 secrets to IELTS Band 8 Reading

Everything you need to answer the question you will find in the question! (Secret 1)

What I mean by this is that if you make the question your main focus you will find it easier to locate the answer in the text. Often I see students underlining multiple words and phrases in the text before they have even looked at the question and I always ask them why they do this? Unless you know what to look for then spending too much time on the text is wasting precious minutes.

Don’t spend more than 1 minute on any one question (Secret 2)

I say this over and over to students but most of them find it hard to accept. The truth is that you have 60 minutes to do 40 questions so you cannot afford to waste time on one question. The questions (NOT the passage) will be trickier in passage three so you may need more time. So here is a typical scenario – you get stuck on question 6 you spend a few minutes, you are determined to find the answer – after all it’s only question 6 – you arrive at passage 3 your time runs out at question 32 you have to guess the rest – sound familiar? The fact is that now your score will be out of 32 so unless you get 100% correct there is only a slim chance you can reach your band 7 – it is simple mathematics. ‘It’s only question 6’ is a good reason to leave it, move on and come back later. If you adopt and practise this technique you will find that you have plenty of time.

Understand the difference between skimming and scanning and get good at these skills (Secret 3)

You will find these words in every blog post, every website and every course book about IELTS reading. Do you know the difference? Can you use the techniques effectively to get the right answers? Skimming is reading quickly to get an overview of the text – you need this skill to get a general idea of the topic and also in questions like headings. Scanning is a skill used to find specific key words which you can then analyse more carefully to get your answer. You need to develop both skills in order to manage your time well and increase your score.
