Forming Adverbs.
Many adverbs are formed by adding -
ly to an adjectiv .
sudden sudden
lyslow slow
ly.
A few -ly words are both adjectives and adverbs.
Ex: monthly / weekly / early / daily.
Ex:
My son has a weekly piano lesson. ( adjective )
Turn in your time card weekly,
every Thursday. ( adverb )
AVOID THE Error
Not all words that end in - ly are
adverbs.
Words such as friendly, lovely, and silly are all adjectives. Don't say:
He speaks to everyone friendly.
Say:
He is friendly with everyone with everyone he speaks to.
Say:
He speaks to everyone in a friendly way. @mrielts_speaker

Grammar Time.
ADVERBS
Adverbs are words and phrases that modify verbs , adjectives , other adverbs,
and whole sentences. Adverbs modify :
Verbs
Ex: He ran
quickly and completed the race
in less than a minute. Ex: She gets up
early every day.
AVOID THE Error.
An adjective ,
not an adverb,
follows verbs such as be, seem, become, feel , look, sound, taste, and smell. Don't say:
This cheese smells terribly.
Say:
This cheese smells terrible.
Don't say:
You look tiredly.
Say:
You look tired.
Adjectives.
Ex:This book is
extremely interesting.
Ex:His hand was
slightly hurt.
Note:
The adverbs quite , really , and very can be used to make many adjectives stronger.
The office is quite clean. Williams is really nice. That question is very difficult. Avoid the Error.
English speakers usually do not use very with delicious.
They say really delicious.
Don't say :
Those cupcakes are very delicious.
Say:
Those cupcakes are really delicious.
Other adverbs.
Ex: He worked
exceptionally slowly.
Ex: Chef Smith cooks
wonderfully well.
Note:
The adverbs quite , really , and very can be used to make many adverbs stronger . Ex:
He worked really fast and finished his work in no time. Ex:
This sports car can go quite fast.
Ex:
Ted always listens very carefully.
Entire sentences
Ex:
Unexpectedly, the train left the station.
Ex:
Suddenly,
some fireworks exploded in the air above us.
AVOID THE Error.
When an adverb is first in a sentence, it's followed by a comma.
Happily she cashed her winning lottery ticket. Happily,
she cashed her winning lottery ticket. @mrielts_speaker
