Learning theoretical knowledge about the technology you shouldn't perfectly need to know (for example, Docker for back-end developers) seems boring. What really motivates me to learn this kind of technologies except the job requirements is knowing advantages & disadvantages.
Looking through pluses and minuses of everything you are reluctant to learn makes you willing to learn it because you will automatically compare merits of the tool with others, and then you are like, "hmm... I liked this boring staff. Let's give a try to learn it!"
