Mexican aircraft transporting bodies of 17 migrants lands in Guatemala's capital
The bodies of 17 Guatemalan migrants, who died in a fire at an immigration detention centre in Mexico's Ciudad Juarez, on the border with the United States, arrived in Guatemala City on Tuesday.
On March 27, Around 40 migrants lost their lives in the tragedy 19 Guatemalans, seven Salvadorans, seven Venezuelans, six Hondurans and one Colombian lost their lives.
A video from a security camera showed that neither immigration nor security personnel tried to evacuate the migrants after the fire.
According to the Mexican federal Attorney General’s Office, the head of Mexico’s National Immigration Institute will face criminal charges after the fire.
