Let's get the latest updates from the Qatar 2022 World Cup, as Australia has secured a spot in the round of 16 after a 1-nil victory over Denmark. That's right, The Socceroos are set to make their second appearance in the knockout phase in the tournament for the first time in 16 years. Australia is also the first team from the Asian Football Confederation to advance in this World Cup. Australia scored its match winning goal on sixty minutes.
It came after Denmark lost possession in the Australian penalty area and the Socceroos launched a counterattack, with Mathew Leckie finishing off a good run with the ball by finding the bottom corner with a left foot shot. The result means that Denmark exits the tournament at the bottom of Group D with only one point. Australia is set to play against Argentina next on Sunday at 4 AM Korea time.
