Let's fix a really common writing mistake.

I think the most common Coherence and Cohesion error I see in writing is the incorrect use of the word 'Therefore'. People often seem to think that 'therefore' is the same in meaning as 'as a result'.

Let me explain the difference. 'As a result' is an expression that introduced the effect of a cause. Here's an example.

Humans deposit a lot of plastic into the oceans. As a result, a lot of marine animals are killed every year.

'Therefore' is an expression the introduces the logical conclusion to evidence.

Humans deposit a lot of plastic into the oceans. As a result, a lot of marine animals are killed every year. Therefore, we should be more careful in the way we dispose of plastic.

I hope you can see the difference. As I said at the beginning, a majority of people don't understand this distinction and use 'therefore' to describe cause/effect relationships. This is always a mistake.
