Tips for IELTS speaking

Tip 1
I see bunch of people overusing the word many. Instead use these:
Load of/Loads of

Bunch of/Bunches of

Tonne of/Tonnes of

Pile of/Piles of (Australian version)

Tip 2

Utilize ‘way’ or ‘far’. This makes you sound like a native speaker.

- The cost of a trip was way more expensive than I have expected

- The task was far difficult compared to previous ones.

Tip 3

Use conversional linkers:

On top of that - use it when you want to add a point to a previous statement you claimed.

Examiner: Do you want to become artist?
You: Honestly, no. I think it is tedious work for me. On top of that, I don't derive any pleasure from it.
(No offence to people who love art)

At the same time - you could use it in different ways. Mostly I use it for contradiction to the previous statement.

Examiner: Is social media improving communication between people?
You: Yeah, definitely. It facilitates (облегчает) communication with my loved ones who live far from me.
At the same time, I have to acknowledge that it doesn't come as close and important as face to face communication.

I’d say no/yeah - possible answers you say in IELTS

Examiner - Is it true that global warming is the most important problem?
You: I'd say no because.....

Not at all - If don't agree with a question that examiner said, you could use it.
Example:
- Do you think having further education is important at these days?
- Not at all, especially if you want to be businessman. This is due to ....

Truth be told - don't have explanation, just comes naturally to me. Learn how to use it by examples.

Examiner:Do you like your hometown?
You: Truth be told, no ...

As a matter of fact - In reality/Actually

Examiner: Do you like chocolates?
I am obsessed with chocolates. As a matter of fact, I recently bought 10 pieces of Nutella and ate them in 1 week.

Aside from that - except that

Examiner: are there a lot of disadvantages working as a doctor?
You: Well, it definitely has some drawbacks like stressfulness. But aside from that I don't see any disadvantages.

Tip 4 (for part 2)

If you don’t know what to say and you need to speak more, use sum up method. Just sum up how you felt and how it was, depending on a question.

All in all

Long story short

All things considered

To sum it

(Example) Part 2 question: What is the best book you read in your life?
(In the end) You: Long story short, it is fantastic book. I feel this book helped me to become better and smarter and bla bla bla

Tip 5

Use idioms if you want to say that something is easy or difficult

Easy:

Piece of cake

It is not exactly a rocket science

pretty/fairly easy

Difficult:

It is easier said than done

It is not exactly a walk in the park

if you liked and find these things useful leave like It motivates me and shows that you appreciate my time.
