Consumerism pros and cons

As you know, we are living under capitalism ideology, which is covered sevaral aspects particularly consumerism. Consumerism is never-ending cycle and an economical, a social theory, that encourage a country more consumption and purchasing of goods. However, there are some benefits and implications in terms of consumerism:

Benefit of consumerism

-Imporevement of economic growth is the solely real benefit of consumerism I have seen, When a large number of citizens buy products and services in an excess amount that means they consume more, spend more, so this cycle can lead to the greater production of products.

Impact on environment

- Consumerism causes a decrease in the carrying capacity of the whole planet. Excessive rise in consumption is destroying our environment. As if the needs for goods increases, there will be an increase in the production
house like factories, industries, etc. It will cause a wide range of air pollution and accelerate
climate change.

- Waste disposal will also increase which is a major problem worldwide. Our oceans are surely becoming the largest waste disposal pits because of plastic wrappers. Every year tons of plastic enter the oceans that causing a serious threat to marine life.

Impact on society

- One of the major problem of overconsumption is obesity in individuals which consistently leads to social and cultural problem. Medical services are, for example, stretched further and further as obesity rates that rise worldwide.

- The huge amount of rising in resoursces consumption has fullfiled a wide gap between rich and poor people. According to recent research in the USA only 10% affluent population have consumed 60% of resources.

It is visible and obvious that we need to reduce consumerism and change our current lifestyle. We should use natural resources at a very unsustainable rate that is causing massive environmental destruction and social problems across the world.
